Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla addressed the participants in the inaugural session of the last phase of National Youth Parliament 2021 organized by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports and Lok Sabha Secretariat in the Central Hall of Parliament House on Monday. The Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Youth Affairs and Sports, Mr. Kiren Rijiju and General Secretary of Lok Sabha, Utpal Kumar Singh also attended the event. On this occasion, Birla said that in the last seven decades of travel, India’s democracy has been continuously strengthened and prosperous. Birla also said that the maturity of our democracy is also known from the fact that the change of power in our country has always happened smoothly and according to the traditions of democracy.
Talking about the youth and their contribution in nation building, Birla said that the former youth of democracy had sacrificed and liberated the country. Similarly, today the youth will have to work actively to take India forward on the path of prosperity and progress. Birla said that to take the country to new heights, it is necessary that the youth contribute in this work. This is their responsibility as well as duty. He also said that during the Mann Ki Baat program in 2017, Prime Minister, Narendra Modi had given a new direction to the youth working to move the country on the path of progress through innovation and new thinking in various fields. Birla expressed confidence that in the coming years the youth of the country will play a leading role in an innovation-based world through their intellectual abilities, technical knowledge and skills.
Shri Birla also said that in a democracy we share our thoughts and experiences. They debate and discuss and reach a conclusion after extensive discussion. This is the strength of the democratic system that gives everyone the right to express their views. He hoped that the Youth Parliament would play an important role in empowering democracy with the resolution of the Nation First.
Birla interacted with young leaders competing in the last phase of the National Youth Parliament 2021 and encouraged them. Birla directed the Lok Sabha Secretariat to inform these young participants about the work of Parliament so that they can better understand democracy functioning.
Expressing his views on the occasion, Kiren Rijiju said that it is indeed a historic moment that the youth of our country are participating in the National Youth Parliament in the temple of Indian democracy. He thanked the Speaker, Lok Sabha, Shri Om Birla for providing such a unique opportunity. Noting that Swami Vivekananda’s birthday is celebrated as National Youth Day on 12 January, Rijiju said that new initiatives are being introduced this year to involve the youth in the task of realizing the dream of Ek Bharat, Shreshtha Bharat. He also said that youth from across the country participated vigorously in the National Youth Parliament Festival 2021. He hoped that this program would give him a platform to share his social and economic views and help in assimilating democratic values. It will be a truly memorable occasion for them.
