The first day of the World Test Championship between India and New Zealand was washed out due to rain. The toss has not even happened in the match so far. According to media reports, due to the changed playing conditions due to rain, changes can also be made in the final-11 of Team India.
India’s fielding coach R Sridhar made the statement after the first day’s play was announced. He said that our playing 11 is capable of playing in all pitches and conditions. But the toss hasn’t happened yet and in that case anything is possible.
Gavaskar also talked about change in playing-11
Earlier, Sunil Gavaskar had talked about the change in playing-11 during an interview. He had said during the conversation with Aaj Tak that India will change the team at the time of toss. Instead of a spinner, an extra batsman can be given a chance. According to the ICC rules, it is not necessary to play the team according to the announcement of Playing-11 a day before. This can be changed at the time of toss.
Kohli can change the team till the time of toss
Gavaskar said – Even though the team has been announced, nothing is final until the captains of the toss share their respective team sheets. You can make changes to the team till the last minute. If I am the captain and confused whether to give a chance to an extra spinner or an extra batsman. In such a situation, I will see the playing 11 of the opposite team and can change my team just before the toss.
“Pant should bat at number seven”
Gavaskar said – That’s why the toss will be very important. The kind of weather it is in Southampton right now, I think an extra batsman should get a chance. Cloudy weather can be helpful for New Zealand bowlers. Rishabh Pant should bat at number 7 and a specialist should be given a chance at number 6. For this you can drop a spinner.
Batsman can get a chance instead of spinner
If the team is changed, either Ravichandran Ashwin or Ravindra Jadeja can be dropped. On the other hand, Hanuma Vihari can get a chance. He is also a part time bowler. However, the chances of a change in the team are extremely slim.
Earlier, the team management had announced the playing-11 on Thursday. The team had 6 batsmen, 2 spinners and 3 pacers. Ishant Sharma, Mohammed Shami and Jasprit Bumrah will lead the fast bowling. New Zealand has not yet announced the Playing-11.
