India’s Priya Malik won the gold medal in the 73 kg weight category at the World Cadet Wrestling Championships in Budapest, Hungary. Indian girls won a total of 5 medals including 3 gold in this event. After Priya’s victory, there was a misconception among some fans of India that she had achieved success in the Olympics.
Priya defeated the Belarusian wrestler 5-0 in the final. Apart from Priya, two more Indian wrestlers won gold and two wrestlers won bronze medals. Tannu won gold medal in 43 kg and Komal in 46 kg. On the other hand Varsha won the bronze medal in 65 kg weight and last in 53 kg weight. In this championship, India finished second overall in the girls’ category. America’s team came first and Russia’s team came third.
