You could not control your emotions after American tennis player Coco Gauff lost in the Australian Open.
Australian Open fans are left disappointed after Jelena Ostapenko’s win over Coco Gauff and Iga Swiatek’s loss against Elina Rybkina. Coco Gauff was in tears in the interview room after the loss as she expressed her regret for the fourth round loss. The organizers of this Grand Slam will also be disappointed. About 30 minutes after the defeat of World No. 1 Swatek, Gough was also sent off. Broadcasters and marketers sold their inventory in the name of both of them. However, this is not a new phenomenon in the women’s category of Grand Slam. Rivalries between women players are hard to find on the WTA Tour. In most of the tournaments, it is not even known who could be the contenders for the title here.
If we look at the last Australian Open, the contenders were Swiatek, Ashleigh Barty, Naomi Osaka, Simona Halep and the rising Gauff and Ema Radukanu. Ostapenko defeated Gauff and Rybakina defeated Swiatek in straight sets. These two winning players are not particularly popular. Rybakina had won Wimbledon the previous year, however, when she landed at Wimbledon. This defeat of women’s singles created a unique record. This is the first Grand Slam tournament since the start of the Open Era in 1968 when the top two seeds in both men’s and women’s events exited before the quarterfinals. Apart from Nadal and Casper Rude, Ons Zebur has also been eliminated.
