America has made Ajay Banga its candidate for the post of President of the World Bank.
America’s candidate for the post of World Bank President Ajay Banga is on a 2-day visit to India from today. He will be in New Delhi on 23 and 24 March. During this he will meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Apart from this, he will also meet Finance Minister Nirmal Sarkari and Foreign Minister S Jaishankar.
Many issues will be discussed including India’s development priorities
During his visit, he will discuss a range of issues including India’s development priorities, the World Bank and global economic development challenges. In addition, Banga will also visit Lernet Institute of Skills.
First person of Indian origin to be nominated for the post of President
Ajay Banga can become the new President of the World Bank. US President Joe Biden nominated him last. He is the first person of Indian origin to be nominated for this. He was nominated after the current President of the World Bank, David Malpass, announced that he would step down before April 2024. At present, the 63-year-old Indian-American Banga is the vice-chairman of private equity fund General Atlantic.

In 2012, the famous magazine Fortune selected Banga as ‘Powerful Industrialist-2012’. He is the brother of Manvinder Singh Banga, former chairman of Hindustan Unilever.
