In this meeting which lasted for about 4 hours, Anurag Thakur tried to convince the wrestlers. Along with this, he has also assured of action. But the wrestler sitting on the dharna is adamant on Brij Bhushan’s resignation. Due to this, no result has come out in the meeting and the wrestlers left without talking to the media. Friday i.e. today once again there can be talks between the sports minister and the wrestlers. Today wrestlers will sit on dharna, on this the wrestlers will clear the situation in the morning.
The ministry has given 72 hours time to Braj Bhushan Sharan on Wednesday to respond. Sports Minister Thakur has assured strict action to the wrestlers after the reply. Let me tell you, the wrestlers have made up their mind to fight on this issue. They are not ready for anything less than the resignation of Brij Bhushan Singh. He clearly says that Brij Bhushan Singh should resign and the wrestling association should be disbanded.
Some of the country’s top wrestlers, including Vinesh Phogat, Bajrang Punia and Sakshi Malik, who are on strike, have accused Wrestling Federation of India President (WFI President) Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh and coaches of sexual harassment. World Championship medalist and Olympian Vinesh claimed that many coaches have also exploited women wrestlers. These wrestlers say that we have not yet received a satisfactory answer in the matter. Till now only assurances have been received. No concrete action has been taken. We will not leave this matter until the head of the Sangh is removed and goes to jail. If the government does not take action, we will go to the police.
On the other hand, BJP MP and WFI President Braj Bhushan Singh has denied all the allegations. He said, “All allegations of sexual harassment are false, and if they are found to be true, I will commit suicide. I tried to contact several wrestlers, including Bajrang Punia, but could not be reached.”
Meanwhile, Indian Olympic Association chief PT Usha said on Thursday that as IOA president, I am discussing the current issue of wrestlers with the members. The welfare and well-being of athletes is a top priority for all of us. We request the athletes to come forward and share their concerns with us. We will ensure a thorough investigation to ensure justice. Usha said that we have also decided to constitute a special committee for prompt action to deal with such situations arising in future.
