The name of a former gangster from Punjab has now come to the fore in a rally in Bathinda, after being named in a case related to violence in Delhi during a farmers’ tractor rally last month. According to Delhi Police, Lakhbir Singh alias Lakkha Sidhana had (26 January) instigated the protesters to stage violent demonstrations during the tractor rally on Republic Day. During that time, hundreds of protesters clashed with the police at other places in Delhi including the Red Fort. Now again Lakkha Sidhana has called a public meeting in favor of the farmers’ movement by posting a video on Facebook. This public meeting has been convened by Lakkha Sidhana in Mehraj, Bathinda’s ancestral village of Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh. In which he appealed to the people that a large number of people should join his program.

Who is Lakha Sidhana?

The mastermind of the Red Fort violence in Delhi and former gangster Lakkha Sidhana have at least 10 criminal cases registered in Punjab including land grab and murder. He has also gone to jail many times. Village Mehraj is a part of Rampura Phool assembly constituency, from where Lakhbir Singh Lakkha alias Lakkha Sidhana contested the assembly elections in 2012 as a candidate for the People’s Party of Punjab. This party was formed by Manpreet Singh Badal, the state finance minister and MLA from Bathinda and later it was merged with the Congress.
