A laborer working there was killed and 13 others injured when a construction bridge collapsed on Sunday in Gular area along Rishikesh-Badrinath National Highway 58 in Uttarakhand’s Tehri district. Describing the incident as tragic and unfortunate, Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat has wished the injured to get well soon. He has directed the Chief Secretary to investigate the causes of the bridge damage and accident.
Executive Engineer Dinesh Kumar Bijalwan of Srinagar section of National Highway of Public Works Department said that the incident took place 25 km from Rishikesh where the under construction forelane bridge suddenly collapsed while putting a letter. He said that the work of one part of this bridge was completed 45 meters while the lanter was being put on the other part. He told that prima facie this accident has happened due to the disturbances in the shuttering and the whole matter is being investigated.
State Disaster Response Force and police teams reached the spot and rescued the workers injured in the accident and admitted them to Rishikesh Government Hospital and AIIMS. District Disaster Management Department of Tehri said that one of the injured succumbed during treatment while the condition of three others remains critical.
The deceased has been identified as 24-year-old Riyaz, a resident of Amroha, Uttar Pradesh. Most of the injured laborers are from Uttar Pradesh and Bihar.
