- UGC Approves Online Degree Program In 38 Universities Of The Country, Now Students Will Be Able To Study 171 Courses Online

The University Grants Commission (UGC) has approved 38 universities in the country for online degree programs. Now all these 38 universities can start fullfledge online program even without the permission of UGC. According to the list released by the UGC, the universities offering online degree courses include 15 deemed, 13 state and three central universities.
171 courses approved
Apart from this, three private universities including OP Jindal Global University, Chandigarh University and Manipal University are also included in this list. Including all these institutes, 171 courses have been approved so far. Tamil Nadu has the maximum number of 11 institutes, which have been approved for 72 courses.
UGC had sought applications from the university
UGC had invited applications from higher education institutions desirous of offering online programs for the academic session 2020-21. All these universities can start conducting the online program only if they comply with the NAAC or NIRF ranking criteria as per UGC norms.
40 percent study will be online
Earlier, the UGC had already allowed online teaching of up to 40 per cent of a normal curriculum to students to help them with their studies, in view of the situation arising out of the corona pandemic.
