Top Election Officer reviews election preparations in Bengal, law and order situation worsens

Deputy Election Commissioner Sudeep Jain on Thursday reviewed the preparations related to the assembly elections in West Bengal and expressed concern over the state of law and order in the state. Officials present in the meeting said that Jain made it clear that the type of violence that took place during the 2019 Lok Sabha elections is ‘unacceptable’. In this regard, an official said on the condition of anonymity that the commission can take tough measures against the officers found neglecting the duties.

He said that such officers will be removed and the Commission is looking at the Assembly elections as a challenge and is committed to conduct free and fair elections. Chief Secretary Alapan Bandyopadhyay, Home Secretary HK Dwivedi and Director General of Police Virendra attended the meeting.
