India’s boxer Lovlina confirmed her medal in the Olympics by winning her bout in the quarter-finals in the 69 kg weight. Lovlina, who hails from Golaghat district of Assam, is the first woman athlete from Assam to participate in the Olympics. Lovlina used to do kick boxing before coming to boxing, she has won a medal at the national level in kick boxing.
Lovlina started kickboxing after seeing her twin sisters Licha and Lima. After being selected in the Assam Regional Center of the Sports Authority of India (SAI), she started taking training in boxing. Both his sisters have also won medals at the national level in kick boxing.
Lovlina had to struggle a lot in her childhood. His father Tiken Borgohain had a small shop. In the initial phase, Lovlina did not even have a tracksuit. There was a struggle for equipment and diet.
Lovlina wants to fulfill her mother’s dream
In an interview with NewsBust India, Lovlina had said, ‘We are three sisters. Everyone used to say that girls will not be able to do anything, but my mother Mamoni Borgohain always says that you have to do something so that people will remember you.’ Lovlina has gone a step further to fulfill this statement of her mother. She is the first female player from Assam, who is representing the country in the Olympics. He has been honored with Arjuna Award.
Started boxing after being influenced by Muhammad Ali
Lovlina had told in an interview that she started boxing after being influenced by Mohammad Ali. His father Tiken Borgohain once brought sweets wrapped in newspaper from the market. In that newspaper clipping was printed about Muhammad Ali. He learned about Muhammad Ali from his father. Since then she started dreaming of making a career in boxing.
Lovlina got a new direction after coming to Sai
When Lovlina was in the 9th standard, she was selected for the regional center of Sai in Assam. It was there that his game improved. Lovlina’s coach Sandhya Gurung had said in an interview that when she came to SAI, she used to play for a lot of fear. It was only after coming here that her technique improved and she started playing freely.
Won medals in two world boxing championships
Lovlina has won bronze medals in the World Boxing Championships held in 2018 and 2019, silver in the first Indian Open International Boxing Tournament held in Delhi and the gold medal in the second Indian Open International Boxing Tournament held in Guwahati. Apart from this, she has also won bronze medal in 2017 Asian Boxing Championship. Represented the country in the 2018 Commonwealth Games.
