The BJP is elated with the results of the recent assembly elections in the three states of the North East. Now the party is eyeing the states of South India. The BJP feels that the party can do better in these states during the Lok Sabha elections. The southern states have 129 Lok Sabha seats. At present, BJP has only 29 seats out of these. Of these, 25 seats are from Karnataka alone. That’s why the BJP is now eyeing to make maximum inroads in the 129 parliamentary seats in the southern states. The victory in the North East and the political changes in the states of South India between 2019 and 2024 are encouraging for the BJP. BJP BJP is not only eyeing Karnataka and Telangana in the South this time. Tamil Nadu is also included in the party’s plan.
There will be a signal from the assembly elections
Assembly elections are also due in Karnataka and Telangana before the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. Assembly elections in BJP-ruled Karnataka and Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS)-ruled Telangana will be held later this year. These elections will give an indication whether the atmosphere is favorable for the BJP in the South or not. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is confident of BJP’s victory in Kerala. In Telangana, BJP has won two-three assembly by-elections in the recent past.
The BJP also performed well in the 2020 Hyderabad Municipal Corporation elections. Due to this, BJP can come in a position to give competition in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
BJP’s journey in last 10 years in all three states of North East.
These leaders engaged in challenging Modi in South
Telangana’s CM KCR has also started trying to remove BJP from the center. On the other hand, Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) President and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK. Stalin is being projected as a leader who can rally non-BJP votes to challenge the BJP. Shortly before, for this purpose, KCR changed his party from TRIS to BRS and also opened a party office in Delhi.
KCR is trying to forge opposition unity with former UP CM Akhilesh Yadav, Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal. Recently Tamil Nadu CM Stalin said that BJP should not come to power.
There is no BJP MP in Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Andhra Pradesh
The BJP has 29 seats in the Lok Sabha from Karnataka and Telangana. The BJP won 25 out of 28 Lok Sabha seats in Karnataka in 2019. In Mandya, his supported independent candidate also won. Four MPs were elected from Telangana and reached the Lok Sabha. But there is no BJP MP in this House from Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Andhra Pradesh. But party workers are confident that things have started turning in favor of the BJP in Tamil Nadu.
Despite the DMK wave in the 2021 assembly elections, the BJP had won four seats. One of them is in Erode district, which is the birthplace of E V Ramasamy Periyar, a great leader of the Dravidian movement. The state unit of the party has set a target of winning 15 seats in the 2024 general elections. The BJP feels that the 2024 Lok Sabha elections in Tamil Nadu will be different from the earlier elections. The BJP sees Telangana as the next state after Karnataka where it feels it has a chance of coming to power in the state.
