Under the captaincy of Shafali Verma, the Indian team defeated England by seven wickets to win the first ICC Women’s Under-19 T20 World Cup. This is the first time India has won the ICC World Cup at any level in women’s cricket.
Despite such a huge success, Shefali is not satisfied. She says – this is just the beginning. Shefali said that she does not want to go to India from South Africa with only this trophy. She also wants to win the Senior T20 World Cup trophy. This tournament is starting from February 10 in South Africa itself. Shefali will represent India’s senior women’s team in this.
I focus on one place at a time – Shefali
Shefali said after the final match that, I am one of those players who focuses on one tournament at a time. When I started the Under-19 World Cup campaign, my focus was only on winning this tournament. Now I will take my confidence forward and also win the Senior World Cup. Now I will forget about U-19 and focus on the senior team and together we will win the World Cup.
Shefali’s all-round performance in Under 19 World Cup
Shefali performed all-round in the Under-19 World Cup. Shefali played all 7 matches and scored 172 runs. He also took four wickets.
Shefali has been playing in the senior team since the age of 15.
Shefali started playing cricket at the age of 8. At the age of just 15, Shefali entered international cricket from T20. At the age of 19, Shefali Verma captained the Under-19 cricket team.
