Chamika Karunaratne suffered four teeth after being hit on the face while fielding in the Lanka Premier League match between Kandy Falcons and Galle Gladiators. He was taken to the hospital, later underwent surgery.
Actually Chamika is playing on behalf of Kandy Falcons in this league. In the fourth over of Galle Gladiators’ innings, skipper Carlos Brathwaite was bowling the caddy. First ball of the over, Nuwanidu Fernando tries to hit it over cover. Chamika Karunaratne tries to take a catch while running in the opposite direction. In this attempt, the ball hit his face and during this he took the catch and tossed the ball towards the fellow fielder.
Fernando returned to the pavilion after getting out. At the same time, due to injury on Chamika’s mouth, four of her teeth were broken. According to Sri Lankan media reports, Chamika was immediately taken to the hospital and underwent surgery.
Kandy won the match by 5 wickets
Due to injury, Chamika did not come out to bat. But his team Kandy Falcons won by 5 wickets. Batting first, Galle Gladiators set a target of 121 runs. In response, Candy came out to bat and achieved the target with 5 wickets remaining.
