The guard of the Union Bank of India ATM in Bengaluru stole Rs 20 lakh from the ATM machine. According to media reports, the young man had stolen money to marry his girlfriend. For this, he had befriended the people of the cash loading staff a few days back. Later, on some pretext, found out the password to open the cash cassette of the ATM from his diary and carried out the incident.
Police have arrested the accused. Police said that 23-year-old accused Deeponkar Nomosudra is a resident of Assam. He had planned to steal the money on November 17 between 7 to 8 pm. Rs 14.2 lakh in cash has been recovered from him. The accused had got a job as a guard at an ATM near Wilson Garden in Bengaluru six months ago.
Although the video of his stealing the money was captured in CCTV, in which he stole the money by turning off the lights and also changed his clothes so that no one could recognize him even after being caught on camera.
Accused Deeponkar Nomosudra is a resident of Assam, he had got job as a guard only 6 months back.
Bank manager had given information to the police
The incident came to light the other day when both the guard and the money were found missing from the ATM. After this, the bank manager informed the police, in which it was alleged that Nomosudra had absconded with about 19 lakh 96 thousand rupees. When the police investigated, it was found that he had fled to his home in Assam.
Rs 14.2 lakh cash has been recovered from the accused.
Theft was not intended, money was needed for marriage
Police arrested the accused from Assam and registered a case against him under Section 381 of IPC. When interrogated the accused, he told that he had no intention but he had to get married and he did not have money for the expenses. That’s why he took this step.
5 lakh rupees were spent in partying with friends
The accused also told that he had spent Rs 5 lakh for partying with his friends. Had planned to build a house and open a hotel with the rest of the money. Police said that the accused had no previous record. At present, he has been produced in the court and sent to judicial custody.
