Telecom service provider Bharti Airtel and chipmaker Qualcomm on Tuesday announced a partnership to accelerate implementation of 5G in India. Airtel has recently demonstrated 5G service on a live commercial network in Hyderabad city. In this way Airtel has become the first telecom company in India to do so.
“Through its network vendors and device partners, Airtel will use Qualcomm’s 5G RAN platform to introduce virtualized and open RAN-based 5G networks,” according to a company statement. Being a member of the board of directors of the Airtel O-Ran alliance, it is committed to making it successful. The company is working closely with Qualcomm to implement O-RAN in India.
