The Indian telecom market painted an interesting picture in May, with Bharti Airtel losing 46.13 lakh mobile service subscribers and rival Reliance Jio’s by 35.54 lakh, according to data from telecom regulator TRAI. Overall, the Indian mobile market saw a decrease of 62.7 million users in May.
During this, Jio added 35.54 lakh mobile users, with which the number of its subscribers increased to 4312 million. In May, both Airtel and Vodafone Idea lost a large number of customers.
According to the data released by the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) for the month of May, Airtel lost 46.13 lakh mobile users and its subscriber base fell to 348 million.
Troubled Vodafone Idea’s mobile subscriber base declined by 4.28 million users and its subscriber base declined to 277 million.
India’s total mobile subscriber base has declined by 62.7 lakh and with this the number of mobile phone service subscribers has come down to 1176 million amid the second wave of Kovid-19 in the country.
