Famous singer Justin Bieber recently shared some of his pictures and videos on social media. In these, Bieber told that he has been suffering from a serious illness. This disease is called Ramsay Hunt syndrome. If it is not recognized in the early stage and treatment is not started, then it can have serious consequences.

Bedford-based stage manager Matt Carney also suffered from Bieber’s disease. Matt explains that when he first experienced the mysterious symptoms, he started having ear pain. Pain like never before. The painkillers did not work and one day when he was on his way home, his face kind of hanged. Within two days his face was completely paralyzed.

Viral infection is Ramsay Hunt syndrome

Ramsay Hunt syndrome is a viral infection caused by the varicella zoster virus. The hardest thing for 33-year-old Carney was being unable to blink. He says, “I have to close and open my eyes with my fingers to blink. To stop my eyes from drying out, I have to manually pull the eyelid down and put the eye drops into my eye every 20 minutes to blink. Had to put it.”

“I had to tape my eyes closed at night to sleep. While walking outside in the heat, my eyes would dry out in seconds because of the wind. Chances are, if I got antivirals sooner, I would be completely paralyzed would have survived.”

25,000 new cases in a year in the UK

According to Charles Nduka, consultant plastic surgeon at Queen Victoria Hospital in East Grinstead, Ramsay Hunt syndrome occurs in about five cases per 100,000. It is estimated that there are about 25,000 new cases of this type of face in the UK a year. One third of these people never fully recovered.
