What is ‘Blue Flag’ certificate?
The Foundation for Environment Education (FEE) of Denmark works to give ‘Blue Flag’ certificates to the beaches. It is a kind of eco-label and is recognized worldwide. The beaches that get this certificate are tested at many levels, only after that the certificate is given.

How is the Blue Flag Certificate issued?
Before awarding this certificate to a beach, the organization examines it on the basis of 33 stringent criteria. Beaches that meet 33 standards such as environment, bathing water quality, environmental management, beach safety and services get this certificate.

What is the meaning of this certificate?
Its biggest advantage is related to eco-tourism. Traveling tourists can know from the Blue Flag which beaches in the country are best for visiting or spending time. Where they can get clean water, safe and healthy environment for bathing. It also plays a role in improving the economy of the country in terms of tourists.

How did this become possible?
The ‘I’m Saving My Beach’ campaign was started by the Ministry of Environment on 5 June 2018 on the occasion of World Environment Day to clean the beaches. This campaign was started in 13 coastal states of the country. After the cleaning of the beaches through this campaign, the situation got better than before and the country achieved this achievement.
