13 different viruses have been found in the Siberia region of Russia. One of these viruses is 48 thousand 500 years old. Scientists have named all these as ‘zombie virus’. This is because it is alive despite being buried under the ice for so many centuries. If experts are to be believed, like Corona, new viruses can also prove to be dangerous for us.
Virus can infect humans and animals
The research has been published in the bioRxiv digital library. This discovery has been made by scientists from Russia, France and Germany. They say that this virus buried in the lake is capable of infecting the amoeba microbe. It is not dangerous, it cannot be said. Laid-down zombie viruses can break out and spread into the environment, infecting humans and animals.
Zombie viruses can make humans and animals sick.
The name of the oldest virus is Pandoravirus Yedoma.
According to scientists, the name of 48 thousand 500 years old virus is Pandoravirus Yedoma. This is a new record for the age of frozen virus. Earlier, the age of a virus found only in Siberia was recorded as 30 thousand years. It was also alive like Pandoravirus and was capable of infecting other organisms.
Snow melting due to climate change, virus getting exposed
Research has said that due to climate change and increasing global warming, glaciers and ice are melting continuously. Due to this, the greenhouse gas buried inside them, such as methane, is coming out. This leads to more rapid changes in the climate. It is a vicious cycle.
Snow is melting rapidly in Siberia, Russia. New viruses are being exposed due to this.
Slowly the viruses found under the layer of ice are being exposed. Many of these viruses are alive and dangerous even after being buried for centuries. Research is yet to be done on how much harm they can do to us by being exposed in the environment.
