Sri Lanka has stopped the supply of Chinese Sinopharm. It has decided to use 1.4 crore doses of Oxford and AstraZeneca vaccine (Oxford AstraZeneca vaccine) being prepared in India.
Sri Lankan cabinet spokesperson Dr. Ramesh Pathirana said that the Phase III trial of the Chinese vaccine synovium has not yet been completed. Dr. Pathirana said that the dossier for the registration of China’s Sinofarm vaccine has not yet been received by Sri Lanka. At present, Sri Lanka will depend on the AstraZeneca vaccine prepared at the Serum Institute. As soon as the necessary documents are received from the Chinese company, then only that will be considered.
However, he said that the registration of the Sinopharm vaccine will take time, as the World Health Organization has not yet approved it. It is still under consideration.
