Prime Minister Modi, without naming Rahul Gandhi, referred to the Congress leader’s remarks in London that ‘Indian democracy is in danger’, and attributed it to 12th century social reformer Basaveshwara, the people of Karnataka, the great traditions of India and its citizens. Told to insult. Modi is on his sixth visit to Karnataka this year, where assembly elections are due in May.
Modi said, “There is a statue of Basaveshwara in London, but it is unfortunate that in the same London, questions were raised on India’s democracy.” The roots of India’s democracy are nurtured by our centuries-old history. No power in this world can harm India’s democratic traditions. Despite this, some people are constantly putting it in the dock.
Reacting to Modi’s statement, Congress media and propaganda department chief Pawan Khera said that the Prime Minister “wasted” nine years in “abusing” the elders and ancestors of this country.
Khera said in a video message, “When you (Prime Minister) say that nothing has happened in the last 70 years, then you insult three generations, then you are not worried about the image of the country.” When you stand in Parliament and pat yourself on the back saying ‘Ek Akela Sab Par Bhari’, even then the world is watching and laughing too.
He said, “When you show red eyes to the media of the country by being a touchy-feely, raid against the foreign media, then you are not worried about the image of the country.”
Khera claimed that the Prime Minister had said abroad that people considered it unfortunate to be born in India. He asked whether he was not concerned about what he was doing to the image of the country.
The Congress leader said, “Prime Minister, you attack democracy, that’s why it is discussed.” If the challenges before democracy are being discussed among the students of Cambridge University, then it is an exercise to strengthen democracy. You are only the Prime Minister, you are not God, you are not the creator, the sun does not rise with your permission… Remove these misconceptions from your mind.
Khera later tweeted, “Since when did the condemnation of your policies become the condemnation of the country?” You are just a prime minister, you are neither the country, nor God nor the creator.” Congress spokesperson Supriya Shrinate also hit back at Modi, saying he should talk like a prime minister.
