The Central Government has issued a guideline for social media influencers and celebrities on Friday. Under this guideline, they will be able to endorse only those products, which they themselves have used or are doing. That is, be it Influencers or celebrities, they cannot mislead the customers by exaggerating any products.
According to the Ministry of Consumer Affairs, if this rule of the government is not followed, fine may have to be paid under the Consumer Protection Act 2019. The Central Consumer Protection Authority (CCPA) can impose a fine of up to Rs 10 lakh on manufacturers, advertisers and endorsers. If you do not follow the rule continuously, you will have to pay a fine of up to 50 lakhs. Also, the advertiser can be barred from any endorsement for 6 months to 2 years.

Consumer Affairs Secretary Rohit Kumar Singh said that through this, giving wrong information about any product or deliberately hiding any information cannot be done. According to the secretary, social media influencers and celebrities will advertise only those products which they use themselves.
Every Celebrity, Social Media Influencer and Virtual Influencer must prominently disclose on the social media account that they take money for promotion or have any financial or other interest. In advertising videos or live streaming, they will have to write this clearly throughout the video. Under the Consumer Protection Act 2019, the guidelines to protect customers from unfair trade practices came into force across the country from Friday.
