Ahead of the arrival of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s ‘Bharat Jodo Yatra’ in Rajasthan, state government ministers on Tuesday held talks with a delegation of Gurjar community for the second consecutive day to resolve their reservation-related and other pending demands. After meeting for several hours on Tuesday evening in two separate sessions, the state government and the Gujjar community delegation agreed to come for talks on Wednesday as well.

People from five communities, including Gujjars, who come under the Most Backward Classes (MBC), are demanding a solution to issues related to five per cent reservation in jobs and educational institutions, scholarships to students and promotions in jobs. Apart from this, they are also demanding the budget for the Devnarayan Board formed for the welfare of the Gujjar community and the withdrawal of the police cases registered against the protestors during the Gujjar reservation movement in the past.
Talking to reporters after the meeting, Sports Minister Ashok Chandna said, ‘A consensus has been reached on many demands, but a decision is yet to be taken on one point. That’s why a meeting has been called on Wednesday as well.
A three-member cabinet sub-committee comprising Ministers BD Kalla, Rajendra Yadav and Ashok Chandna is holding talks with the Gujjar community’s delegation to resolve their issues.
Gurjar Aarakshan Sangharsh Samiti leader Vijay Bainsla had threatened that if his demands were not met, he would not allow the ‘Bharat Jodo Yatra’ to enter Rajasthan.
Bainsla told reporters after the meeting, ‘Until we get a written agreement, we will not consider it as an agreement. We will meet again tomorrow and hope for a positive agreement. We have come here to raise issues related to the future of our youth and not for personal gains.
