Attacking the central government on various issues, former Congress President Rahul Gandhi has targeted the government on the status of India in the Global Hunger Index 2020. India has been ranked 94th out of 107 countries in the case of starvation in the Global Hunger Index. Rahul Gandhi has accused the government of filling the pockets of some of his ‘friends’ with the help of this global index.
Rahul Gandhi wrote in his tweet on Saturday, “The poor of India are hungry because the government is just filling the pockets of some of its special ‘friends’.”
In fact, as far as starvation and malnutrition is concerned, India is lagging behind its much smaller neighboring countries like Nepal, Bangladesh and Pakistan. India ranks 94th on this list of 107 countries. According to the report, India is facing such a level of starvation, which is considered serious.
GHI was ranked 55th in the year 2014. India was ranked 102 in 2019. However, the number of countries recorded in the list has been increasing every year. In the year 2014, India was ranked 55th in the list of 76 countries. In the list of 119 countries made in the year 2017, it was ranked 100th, and in the year 2018, it was ranked 103 in the list of 119 countries.
