According to the NIA investigation, the ‘Popular Front of India’ (PFI) was using social media extensively to involve youth in anti-national activities and a module of the now-banned organisation. He had also made preparations to attack foreigners, especially Jews, coming to Vattakanal in the hilly area of ​​Tamil Nadu. NIA officials said that according to the agency’s investigation, about 15 youths and people associated with them in southern states were involved in this module.

Most of these included members of the PFI or those who support the global terrorist organization ISIS. The module had also hatched a conspiracy to attack High Court judges, senior police officers and Muslims from the Ahmadiyya community with the intention of carrying out terrorist activities in India. Officials said that the module targeted important persons and places of public importance. There was a criminal conspiracy to wage war against the government by collecting explosives and other destructive material. He explained that the module – Ansar-ul-Khilafa Kerala – was involved in a covert campaign to recruit, encourage and radicalize Muslim youth to join ISIS/ISIL.

He told that the people associated with it used various internet-based platforms to propagate the ideology of ISIS. During active surveillance by investigators, five suspects namely Manseed, Swalit Mohammad, Rashid Ali Safwan and Jasim N were traced. He was arrested on October 2, 2016 from Kannur district of Kerala when he was meeting for allegedly plotting to wage war against the government.

He said that the custodial interrogation of the accused revealed that they had communicated with other conspirators within and outside India on social media platforms like Facebook and Telegram etc. for allegedly waging war against the government. One of these accused, Swalit Mohamed, disclosed that he received money from his associates in the UAE to finance his activities.

Officials said the accused propagated the ideology of ISIS directly and through social media and hatched a conspiracy and recruited members for anti-national activities. He had created various Telegram groups like ‘The Gate’, ‘Bab Al Noor’, ‘Play Ground’ etc. According to officials, the investigation revealed that the accused conspired and prepared to attack foreigners, especially Jews, visiting Vattakanal near Kodaikanal, prominent political leaders of Kozhikode in Kerala and a Jamaat-e-Islami event in Kochi. K.Vattakkanal is a small mountainous region in Tamil Nadu’s Dindigul district, where hundreds of Israeli youths come to Israel every year to vacation after compulsory military service. The NIA investigation has also found that Shajahan, a resident of Kerala, working for the terrorist network of ISIS in India, had earlier traveled to Turkey/Syria for allegedly carrying out terrorist activities and was deported from there. was given.

The NIA found that Shajahan had joined the National Democratic Front, an early form of the PFI. Officials said that he came in contact with PFI leaders like Haris, Shabir, Manaf, Mustafa, Sadiq, Shajil. He had attended all PFI meetings in 2008 where atrocities being perpetrated on Muslims by ‘kafirs’ in India and other parts of the world were discussed.
