Petrol Diesel Price: There has been no change in the prices of petrol and diesel even today i.e. on 5th July. Their prices have remained stable since May 21. In fact, a reduction of Rs 8 per liter in excise duty on petrol and Rs 6 per liter on diesel was announced by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on May 21. After which their prices fell. Petrol and diesel sales in India have increased in June as economic activity picks up, people travel during summer vacations and crop sowing has started. Preliminary industry data showed that the demand for diesel has increased in double digits since the sowing season has started. Sales of this fuel grew by 35.2 percent year-on-year to 73.8 million tonnes in June. It is 10.5 percent higher than June, 2019 and 33.3 percent more than June, 2020. Diesel sales were 11.5 percent higher in June as compared to May this year. At that time 67 lakh tonnes of diesel was sold. On the rise in demand for diesel, industry sources said that this is due to higher consumption in agriculture and transport sectors. (with language input)
