Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) mentor Parkash Singh Badal termed the resignation of party leader Harsimrat Kaur Badal (Harsimrat Kaur Badal) from the Union Cabinet as 'bold, historical and principled'. Also, it said that the Akalis cannot support any such steps which harm the interests of the farmers. Harsimrat resigned from the Union Cabinet on Thursday in protest against the three agricultural bills. She was the only minister from the SAD in the Narendra Modi government. These bills were passed in the Lok Sabha on Thursday.
Praising his party for raising the flag of justice for the farmers, former Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal said, "If the farmers and agricultural economy are affected then the entire economy of the country including trade and industry will also be affected." Reacting to the SAD's stand against agricultural bills, Badal said in a statement, "The greed of the post does not matter for an Akali. Instead of remaining silent against injustice, we have rejected the proposals of power countless times even during the Emergency.
