A High Court of Pakistan has banned the work of a close aide of Prime Minister Imran Khan as the President of the official “Pakistan Television” (PTV). This is a setback for Khan. Supreme Court lawyer, Siyasatdan and former TV host Naeem Bukhari was appointed the head of government broadcaster in November last year. The government was criticized for benefiting Khan’s close aide.

A person named Arslan Farrukh challenged the appointment of Bukhari in the Islamabad High Court. His argument was that Bukhari’s appointment was in violation of several orders of the Supreme Court. The single bench of Chief Justice of Islamabad High Court Justice Athar Minallah, after hearing the arguments, said that the appointment of Bukhari is a violation of the judgment given by the Supreme Court in 2018 in such a case.

Justice Minallah said that the cabinet did not take a clear decision for relaxation in age limit for 65-year-old Bukhari. He directed the ministry to place a revised summary before the federal cabinet to review the previous decision and postpone the hearing for two weeks. Bukhari led Khan’s legal team in the Panama paper leak case.
