Swiss company IQ Air has released its 2022 report on Tuesday. According to the report, India has become the eighth most polluted country in the world. Earlier it was the 5th most polluted country. In the report, Lahore city of Pakistan is at number one, Hotan city of China at number two. After that Bhiwadi of Rajasthan is at number three and Delhi at number four.
The Particulate Matter (PM) level here is 2.5 micrometres, which is 10 times higher than the World Health Organisation’s guidelines. In the report, 6 of the world’s top 10 polluted cities and 14 of the top 20 are from India. At the same time, this figure is 39 in the top 50 and 61 in the top 100. Both Delhi and New Delhi figure in the top 10.
Study reports of 131 countries released
The company has released this report after studying 30,000 ground-based monitoring and data received from the government in 131 countries of the world. According to this, 100 cities of India have more pollution than 7 thousand 300 cities of the world. 20 to 35 percent of 2.5 PM pollution is being caused by transportation only. At the same time, industry, coal burning plants and biomass plants are its other sources.
Let us inform that Delhi was the most polluted city in the 2021 report. In this year’s report, Delhi and New Delhi have been considered as two different cities. Both are included in the top 10.
8 percent improvement in Delhi compared to last year
Compared to last year, there has been an improvement of 34 percent in Gurugram, 21 percent in Faridabad, which is adjacent to Delhi. On the other hand, there has been an improvement of 8 percent in Delhi. But still the pollution level in these cities is still higher than normal. This poisonous air is having a bad effect on the lungs of small children. Patients of cancer, asthma and diabetes are facing problems due to this.
55 percent improvement in Agra
Among the most polluted cities, 10 cities are from Uttar Pradesh and 7 from Haryana. However, the city of Agra in Uttar Pradesh has seen an improvement of up to 55 percent. While pollution has been found to have increased in 38 cities.
