Mayer, Mayer and three of his guests, actor Conrad Nagel, director Fred Niblo and producer Fede Beatson, considered forming an organization to benefit the film industry. He told about this plan to the people associated with the main creative works of the world of cinema.

On January 11, 1927, a dinner party was held at the Ambassador Hotel in Los Angeles to discuss this. 36 people participated in it. It was here that the proposal to form an organization was discussed. Eminent personalities such as George Cohen, Mayer, Douglas Fairbankser, Cedric Gibbons, Mary Pickford, Jesseh Laskiy, Cecil, Irving Thalberg B. DeMille, Sid Grauman attended this dinner party. Everyone unanimously supported this proposal. After this, in March 1927, the office bearers of the organization were elected under the chairmanship of Douglas Fairbanks.

On May 11, 1927, the academy was granted permission by the state as an NGO at the Built More Hotel. A party was organized in its happiness. 300 guests came to this party. 230 guests took the membership of the academy and paid a fee of $100 for it. Thomas Edison was awarded the Academy’s first honorary membership that same night. In the beginning, a branch of actors, directors, writers and technicians was formed in the organization.

After the formation of the Academy, the first Academy Awards ceremony was held at the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel. On 16 May 1929, the Blossom Room Dinner of the hotel was organized. In which 270 people participated. It was a paid event, in which a ticket of $ 5 had to be taken to join. In 1929, awards were given to 15 artists. These included films made from 1927-1928. Earlier its craze was not as much as it is now. In the first Academy Awards, it did not even reach the media.

1. According to the official website, any motion film that has been screened in commercial cinema halls in at least one of the six metropolitan cities of the United States of America, Los Angeles, New York, Chicago, Illinois, Miami, Florida, and Atlanta, Georgia.
2. The same film is included in the Oscar race, which is more than 40 minutes.
3. The film should be released between January 1 and December 31 of the same year.
4. The film should have run continuously for at least 7 days in the same theatre.

The Oscar trophy is 13.5 inches i.e. 34 cm long and its weight is 8.5 pounds i.e. 3.85 kg. This trophy has a warrior figure, which is made in art deco. This warrior is standing on a film reel of five moles with a sword. The five moles represent actors, directors, writers, producers and technicians.

Only this trophy is given in the Oscar Award. No cash prize is given in this. However, the market value of the artist who wins the award increases. Oscar winner cannot sell his trophy under any circumstances. If he wants to sell the trophy, he can sell it to the academy. The cost of which is kept only 1 dollar.
