Kullu | The statue of the martyr para commando Bal Krishna was placed.
- Balakrishna was martyred in Kupwara, Jammu and Kashmir last year
Balakrishna, a martyred para-commando of Pooid village of Kharhal valley in Kullu district, died at the age of 24 in an encounter with militants on April 4 last year in Kupwara, Jammu and Kashmir. The people of the village along with the family demanded from the government and administration that the name of the college, hospital, bus stand or chowk be named after them. There was assurance on this, but nothing happened.
Disappointed with the wait of a year, the martyr’s family decided to show the mirror to the administration itself and spent lakhs of rupees in their house and installed a life-size statue of the son. Balkrishna’s father Mahendra Singh says that we met DC Kullu, Cabinet Minister Govind Singh Thakur and other leaders but the demand was not met. In Bilaspur too, the college has been named after the martyr Sanjeev Kumar but this has not happened in Kullu. Ultimately, we had to take this decision.
Pradhan’s charge – DC promised but not kept
Sir Chand, the chief of the Puid Panchayat, reminded the government and the administration that the historic sites should be named after the martyr. He said that DC Kullu Richa Verma had assured that some place would be named after the martyr but no efforts were made by the government and administration.
Efforts are being made to construct a martyr memorial in Kullu, in which this memorial will be built in the memory of the martyred soldiers from the district. In which all the martyred soldiers, including the martyred Bal Krishna, will get a place, who have given martyrdom for the sake of the country.
