Team India will currently play under the leadership of only one captain. Before the third ODI of the India-New Zealand ODI series, Indian coach Rahul Dravid has made it clear that India will not adopt the policy of split captaincy.
Before the match on Monday, when he was asked about the split captaincy, Dravid said- ‘I have no information about it.’
After the disappointing performance in last year’s Asia Cup and T20 World Cup, there were speculations that the Indian team would adopt a split captaincy policy on the lines of England. In some reports, it was said that the board may appoint different captains for white and red ball. It was also claimed in the report that Hardik Pandya could be made the permanent captain of the T20 team.
Hardik Pandya has been captaining the Indian team since losing the semi-finals of the T20 World Cup. Under his captaincy, he defeated New Zealand 1–0 in the two-match series at home and Sri Lanka 2–1 in the 3-match series at home. He is also the captain of the Indian team in the T20 series against New Zealand starting from 27 January.
Now read in detail what Dravid said…
When Dravid was asked that Hardik is captaining the T20 team in Rohit’s absence. Is the management looking at him as a contender for the future captaincy? On the answer of this question, Rahul Dravid said- ‘I have no information about this. This question should be asked to the selectors. At the moment I am not feeling anything like that.
Can’t drop a player at the moment
On the question of Team India players playing Ranji before the tour of Australia, Dravid said, ‘We wanted the players to play, but it was a difficult decision for us. We will not be able to leave anyone. If any player is not playing in the Test series, then we can think if needed for the semi-finals or final.
