Australia had lost their opening wicket to chase down 185 runs. Australia had scored 19 runs losing 4 wickets in 4 overs. At the crease were Glenn Maxwell and Michelle Marsh. He had the responsibility to stick on and play big shots. Tim Southee came to bowl. Maxwell tried to hit the shot on his ball. He put two fielders on the slip. Taking the ball edge went to slip and Jimmy Neesham caught the catch.

Mitchell Marsh scored 45 runs for Australia. No batsman could run besides him. Apart from him, Aston Agar scored 23 runs. No player could play big shots. Ish Sodhi took four wickets. Apart from him, Tim Southee and Trent Boult got 2–2 and Kyle Jamieson and Mitchell Santner got 1–1 wickets.
In the five-match series, New Zealand has taken a 1-0 lead in the series. The next match will be played on 25 February.
