After the cancellation of the deal with Tata Consumer Products Limited (TCPL), Jayanthi Chauhan will now take charge of Bisleri. Jayanthi Chauhan, 42, is the daughter of Ramesh Chauhan, chairman of Bisleri International. With 32% market share, Bisleri is the leader in the Rs 20,000 crore packaged drinking water segment.
Jayanthi Chauhan is currently the Vice Chairperson of Bisleri.
According to the Economic Times report on Monday (March 20), Jayanti Chauhan will now head Bisleri. Because, TCPL has refused to buy bottled water company Bisleri. Presently Jayanthi Chauhan is working as the Vice Chairperson of the company.
Jayanthi will work with professional management team
According to people with knowledge of the matter, Jayanthi will now work with a professional management team led by Angelo George. Ramesh Chauhan, 82, had earlier this year struck a deal to sell Bisleri to the Tata group for Rs 7,000 crore. However, on March 18, Tata Consumer’s deal with Bisleri, India’s largest bottled water brand, got cancelled.
Tata-Bisleri did not talk about valuation
Tata Consumer had given information about the closure of talks to buy Bisleri in an exchange filing 3 days ago. The Economic Times had published a report in November, stating that Bisleri was in talks with the Tata group for a deal. Recently, Bloomberg had also published a report regarding this deal. It was said in the report that the deal talks between Tata Consumer and Bisleri have stopped due to valuation.
Ramesh started selling mineral water at the age of 27
Bisleri was bought by Ramesh Chauhan in the year 1969 for about Rs 4 lakh. Ramesh Chauhan has also made soft drink brands Thums Up, Gold Spot and Limca. However, he sold it to Coca-Cola. Ramesh Chauhan, who popularized the mineral water brand ‘Bisleri’ in India, was born on 17 June 1940 to Jayantilal and Jaya Chauhan in Mumbai.
Ramesh’s friends fondly call him RJC. He has done Mechanical Engineering and Business Management. Always known to be ahead of his time, Chauhan introduced bottled mineral water to the Indian market at the age of 27.
Bisleri was bought from an Italian businessman
Parle Exports bought Bisleri from an Italian businessman in 1969 and started selling mineral water in India. In a career spanning over 50 years, Chauhan made Bisleri India’s top mineral water brand. Chauhan has also created Vedika, a premium natural mineral water brand. Apart from this, Chauhan is also the creator of many brands like Thumsup, Gold Spot, Citra, Maaza and Limca.
