Why protest…?
The Islamic dress code for women there is quite strict. According to Iranian law, women are required to cover their heads with a hijab or headscarf when leaving the house. There are provisions for severe punishment for violation.

Why choose the platform of FIFA?
The Iranian government wants to suppress this demonstration. Thousands of arrests have taken place, hundreds of people have died. This is the reason why the team protested against their government in the stage of the Football World Cup.

Why is there so much ruckus?
The protests have started after the death of Mahsa Amini. Amini, 22, was arrested by Morality police on 13 September. She was accused of violating hijab rules. Amini died in custody.

The country’s symbol was covered with a black jacket in a friendly match.
Iranian players have supported demonstrations before. During a friendly match, the players protested by covering the country’s symbol with black jackets. While some did not celebrate after scoring the goal. Players of sports other than football refused to sing the national anthem.
