Ranji’s caravan is reaching its final stop. From Tuesday, all the teams of Elite Group will participate in their 7th and last group round match. These matches will decide the equation for the quarterfinals of this season. Top-2 teams out of total 4 groups will qualify for quarter finals. Bengal, Saurashtra, Karnataka, and Madhya Pradesh have already qualified for the next round by topping their Groups A, B, C, D respectively. The situation is exciting as only four last-8 spots are left vacant and 11 teams are still in the race to reach the next round.
Let’s look at the equations of each group
Group-D: Madhya Pradesh team has reached the next round with 32 points in the thrilling race of Jung Group-D in Punjab and Vidarbha team. Punjab (26) at number two and Vidarbha (19) at number three are still in the race. The last round match is only between these two. If Punjab wins this match or plays a draw, it will reach the next round. On the other hand, if Vidarbha’s team wins with a bonus point, it will make it to the next round. Defending champions Madhya Pradesh are the most successful team in the ongoing domestic tournament. He has won 5 out of 6 matches in a row.
Group C: For the next spot, RaceKarnataka has made it to the quarter-finals in 4 teams. The contest is between Jharkhand, Kerala, Rajasthan and Goa. Jharkhand (23) will qualify if they beat Karnataka, but if the team loses the match or draws, it will have to depend on the matches of Rajasthan and Kerala. Rajasthan (20) and Kerala (20) will have to win their matches to go ahead. If both the teams remain equal in the points table, then Rajasthan will be in the next round on the basis of bonus points. Goa will pray for the defeat of the remaining 3 teams.
Group A: Jang Bengal has reached quarter finals in Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh. The battle for the second spot is between Uttarakhand (26) and Himachal Pradesh (20). Uttarakhand is facing Haryana and Himachal is facing UP. If Uttarakhand defeats Haryana or gets 3 points on the basis of first innings lead, then its place in the next round will be confirmed. Himachal will have to win with bonus to go through to the next round. Along with this, we have to pray that Uttarakhand loses its match or does not score more than one point.
Group-B: Next team from Mumbai-Maharashtra match: Bonus – 1 bonus point for winning by 10 wickets or inningsThis is how you get points draw (if first innings is not completed) Saurashtra from Group-B has reached the next round with 26 points. In such a situation, there is a war between Maharashtra (25) and the most successful Mumbai (23), occupying the second and third numbers respectively. The Mumbai-Maharashtra match will be a virtual quarterfinal in a way. The team that wins or takes the lead in the first innings will advance to the next round. Ravindra Jadeja will play for Saurashtra against Tamil Nadu. For him, this match will be a challenge to prove fitness and get form before the India-Australia Test series. He has been declared as the captain by Saurashtra.
