China’s social media app Tiktok has been banned by the UK government. In a statement issued by the UK government on Thursday afternoon, it was said – No minister or officer will be able to use Tiktok in his phone. This is a big threat to the security of the country.
Disturbing news is also coming from America for Tiktok. The US government has made it clear that if Tiktok’s parent company in China does not sell a major part of it to an American company, then it will be banned in the whole of America. This app has already been banned in India.

Britain’s Rishi Sunak government suddenly banned Tiktok on Thursday. At present, its scope is limited. It will now be mandatory for all ministers and every government official not to use Tiktok on their phones.
Cabinet Office Minister Oliver Dowden said – No minister or officer will be able to use this Chinese app anymore. This order has to be obeyed immediately. Everyone must delete this app from their phones. We have taken this decision after examining the report of the National Cyber Security Center. Due to this app, there is a possibility of danger on our national security.

America will also ban Tiktok
- Joe Biden Administration has made complete preparations to ban Tiktok. Legal grounds are being prepared for this. According to the report of ‘The Wall Street Journal’ – the US government has written a letter to the parent company of Tiktok.
- It was said in this letter – a fixed and large stake of the company present in China should be sold to an American company. If this does not happen then America will put a complete ban on this app.
- China termed America’s move as a conspiracy to pressurize. Said- The US government is bent on destroying Chinese companies. We do not use this video sharing app for any profit.
- ByteDance is the parent company of Tiktok. He said on America’s move- Global investors have 60% of our shares. 20% is owned by the employees and 20% by its founding members. The working of this company formed in 2012 is completely transparent.
Tiktok is banned in India too
- The Modi government had banned Tiktok four years ago. There were allegations of promoting pornography on the Chinese company’s video app Ticketop. Apart from this, he also faced the allegation of stealing the data of Indians. It was first banned by the Madras High Court.
- After being banned from the High Court, ByteDance appealed to the Supreme Court. He too had upheld the order of the Madras High Court.
- Due to the ban in India, its parent company ByteDance is suffering a loss of $ 5 lakh (Rs 3.50 crore) daily. The Madras High Court had ordered the Central Government to ban the downloading of Tiktok, which is promoting pornography. After this, the Ministry of Information and Technology asked Apple to remove Google from its online store Tiktok. Both the companies removed the app. At that time there were 24 crore users of Tiktok in the country.

At the time of the ban, Nikhil Gandhi, CEO of Tiktok India had said – We are following the Indian law. We are following all the data privacy and security norms under Indian law. We have not shared the information of Indian users with any foreign government including China. If we are requested in future also we will not do so. We understand the importance of user privacy.
The Biden administration has made complete preparations for the ban on Tiktok.
How Chinese apps were banned in India
There is a section in the IT Act made in the year 2000 – 69A. This section says that if the government feels it is in the interest of the sovereignty, security and unity of the country, it can order the blocking of any computer resource for the common people. This section says that if the order of the government is not obeyed, the punishment can be up to seven years and fine can also be imposed. 59 apps have been banned under this section.
What was the reason given by the Government of India?
- These apps pose a threat to India’s security, sovereignty and unity.
- The privacy and data of 130 crore Indians is at risk. There were complaints about this.
- User data is being stolen from these apps and sent to servers outside India.
- This data can reach the enemies.
- The Indian Cybercrime Coordination Center has recommended banning them.
- There are concerns about these apps both inside and outside Parliament. The public was also demanding action.
- It has been decided to ban the apps for the security and sovereignty of Indian cyberspace.
