According to the US intelligence report, the past skirmishes between India and China have proved that the ongoing tension along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) can escalate at a very rapid pace. Amid the ongoing military standoff with China along the Line of Actual Control, defense intelligence agencies recently issued a strict advisory to their troops to ensure that Chinese mobile phones are not used by the troops.
The advisory issued by the intelligence agencies related to defense matters said, “The troops and units have to sensitize their personnel in different ways, so that they take precautions in the use of such (China-made) mobile phone devices… “
In the advisory, military intelligence agencies have asked troops to “discourage jawans and their families from buying and using phones from countries that do not have good relations with India…” According to sources, the advisory It has been issued because there have been cases in which agencies have allegedly found malware and spyware in mobile phones of Chinese origin.
In the advisory issued by intelligence agencies to the units and formations, instead of the phones mentioned in the attached list, they have been asked to ‘change to other phones’. Chinese mobile phones in the market in India include Vivo, Oppo, Xiaomi, One Plus, Honor, Realme, ZTE, Gionee, Asus and Infinix.
Intelligence agencies have been quite active against China-made mobile phone applications in the past as well, and several such applications were removed from the phones of military personnel.
The 26th meeting of the Working Mechanism for Consultation and Coordination on Border Affairs (WMCC) between India and China was held in Beijing on February 22, 2023, the first meeting since July, 2019, in which officials Joined face to face.
The Indian delegation for the meeting was led by the Joint Secretary (East Asia), Ministry of External Affairs, while the Chinese delegation was led by the Director General of the Department of Boundary and Maritime Affairs of the Chinese Foreign Ministry.
In the meeting, both sides reviewed the situation on the LAC in the western sector of the India-China border and discussed proposals for disengagement of forces in the remaining areas. Constructive discussions were held with the aim of restoring peace and tranquility on the LAC in the western sector and creating conditions for the restoration of normalcy in bilateral relations.
In accordance with existing bilateral agreements and protocols, both sides agreed to hold the next (18th) round of senior commanders’ meeting at the earliest. They also agreed to continue discussions through military and diplomatic channels to achieve the objectives.
The report submitted to the US President also states that India’s relations with Pakistan are a matter of concern, However, at present both are on ceasefire. While Pakistan has a history of supporting terrorists against India, it is more likely than ever under the leadership of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi that India will respond militarily to any such provocation. Unrest in Kashmir and terrorist attacks in India can be flash points for this.
