Many problems being faced in the IT return filing portal have been removed. According to the Finance Ministry, there has been a lot of stability in the performance of the portal. The new portal www.incometax.gov.in was facing problems since its launch on 7th June 2021.
The number of return filers is more than 2 crore
According to the ministry, the number of people filing income tax returns on the portal as of October 13, 2021 has exceeded 20 million. According to the data available on the website of the Income Tax Department, 5.80 crore returns were filed for the assessment year 2018-19 i.e. for the financial year 2017-18.
All returns have been made available for e-filing
The Finance Ministry has issued a statement saying that all income tax returns have been made available for e-filing. According to him, more than 2 crore ITRs have been filed for the assessment year 2021-22. Of these, 86% are ITR-1 and ITR-4.
Who can file ITR-1 and ITR-2?
Those who have an annual salary income of Rs 50 lakh and a house property and other sources of income are required to file ITR-1. Those who cannot file ITR-1 and do not have any business or professional income can file ITR-2.
More than 1.70 crore returns have been e-verified
The government has issued a statement saying that more than 1.70 crore returns have been e-verified. Out of this, 1.49 crore returns have been done through Aadhaar based OTP. E-verification through Aadhaar OTP and other methods is required for the ITR process to start and refund is issued.
36.22 lakh refunds have been issued for AY2021-22
According to the ministry, 1.06 crore ITRs have been processed out of the verified ITR-1 and ITR-4. 36.22 lakh refunds have been issued for the assessment year 2021-22. The Finance Ministry said that the processing of ITR-2 and ITR-3 will be started soon.
Who can file ITR-3 and ITR-4 returns
ITR-3 can be filed by individuals or HUF who are in any business or profession and cannot file ITR-4. ITR-4 i.e. Sugam can be used by those individuals, HUFs or partnership firms who can disclose their income on a presumptive basis.
Registration of Digital Signature (DSC) of NRI has started
The government has said that the registration of Digital Signature (DSC) of NRIs has started and a total of 4.87 lakh DSCs have been registered. Apart from this, more than 21.40 lakh e-PANs have been allotted online free of cost. Legal heir related work has been made possible for registration and compliance.
More than 13.44 crore taxpayers logged in to the portal
According to a statement issued by the Finance Ministry, till October 13, 2021, taxpayers have logged-in to the portal more than 13.44 crore times. According to him, around 54.70 lakh taxpayers have availed the ‘Forget Password’ facility to retrieve the password.
