Jan Nayak Karpuri Thakur’s birth anniversary is celebrated on 24 January in Bihar. On the pretext of this birth anniversary, almost all the parties of Bihar claim the legacy of Karpoori Thakur. Kapuri Thakur had emerged as the voice of the poor and downtrodden in the politics of Bihar. Karpoori Thakur was the Chief Minister twice and once the Deputy Chief Minister in Bihar. Along with this, he was the leader of the opposition for decades. Karpoori Thakur won the assembly elections for the first time in 1952. Jannayak Karpoori Thakur was the first non-Congress Chief Minister of Bihar. In 1967, Karpoori Thakur abolished the compulsion of English in Bihar when he became the Deputy Chief Minister. On becoming the Chief Minister in the year 1971, Thakur abolished the revenue tax on non-profitable land, giving great relief to the farmers. Was born in Pitaujhiya village of Samastipur district
Jannayak Karpoori Thakur was born in Pitaujhiya village of Samastipur district. His father Gokul Thakur was a marginal farmer of the village and followed his traditional profession, barber. Karpoori Thakur spent about two and a half years in jail during the Quit India Movement.

Thakur was an invincible politician in politics
Jannayak Karpoori Thakur was the Chief Minister of Bihar twice from 22 December 1970 to 2 June 1971 and from 24 June 1977 to 21 April 1979. Born in the barber family of Bihar, Thakur remained in the All India Students Union. Loknayak Jayprakash Narayan and socialist thinker Dr. Ram Manohar Lohia were his political mentors. In Bihar, an initiative was taken to arrange reservation in government jobs for backward class people.

He didn’t even have a house till the end
Karpoori Thakur was Deputy Chief Minister once, Chief Minister twice and MLA and leader of the opposition party in Bihar for decades. Won the elections in the first assembly of the year 1952. Even after spending a long journey in politics, when he passed away, he did not even have a house and name to give his family as inheritance. During his lifetime, he kept working only in the interest of the society.

Why is Karpoori Thakur called Jannayak
According to political experts, due to the popularity of Jananayak Karpoori Thakur, he is called Jananayak. Jannayak Karpoori Thakur has also been India’s freedom fighter, teacher politician and the second Deputy Chief Minister of Bihar. Born in the barber caste, Karpoori was considered a simple-hearted politician and belonged to a socially backward caste, but he lived politics with the spirit of public service. It is because of his service spirit that he is called Jannayak.
