India beat Australia by 11 runs in the first ODI. With this, Team India has gone ahead 1-0 in the 3 ODI series. The second ODI will be played in Visakhapatnam on Sunday. India’s Ravindra Jadeja, who took a diving catch in the first innings of the first match, was the player of the match.

1. Superb diving catch by Jadeja
In the first innings, Australian opener Mitchell Marsh played a fiery inning of 81 runs. Ravindra Jadeja got him caught out by Hardik Pandya. Jadeja then caught a brilliant diving catch by Marnus Labuschagne. Kuldeep Yadav bowled the fourth ball of the 23rd over short of good length on the off stump. Labushen cuts, Jadeja runs from short third man towards backward point and dives 10 feet away to take the catch.

Legendary cricketer Sachin Tendulkar used to play domestic cricket for Mumbai. A stand has also been built in his name at the Wankhede Stadium. There was a moment during the match when the spectators sitting in the stadium were chanting ‘Sachin…Sachin…’. During the first powerplay, Virat was standing in the slips, during which the song Natu-Natu started playing in the stadium, on which Virat started dancing. Virat could not do anything special with the bat in the match and scored 4 runs in 9 balls and fell victim to Mitchell Starc for the first time in his ODI career.

6. Kohli-Surya out in consecutive balls
Chasing the target of 189 runs, Team India got off to a bad start. The team lost the wicket of Ishaan Kishan in the second over itself. After him, in the fifth over, Mitchell Starc also sent Virat Kohli and Suryakumar Yadav to the pavilion. Stark did both LBW on the fifth and sixth balls of the over.
As soon as Surya was dismissed, India’s score was 3 for 16, after which there was silence in the stadium. Starc ended his spell with 3 wickets in 9.5 overs, but India won the match by 5 wickets after wicketkeeper KL Rahul and Ravindra Jadeja’s strong batting.

7. Shubman Gill missed the catch, got 2 lives
India’s opener Shubman Gill dropped a simple catch in the first innings. Australia’s Cameron Green cuts on Hardik Pandya’s bowling, but the ball goes into the slips. Gill tried to take the catch, but the ball missed his hand. Gill rectified this mistake and in the end caught great catches by Marcus Stoinis and Sean Abbott.
Gill, who came to bat in the second innings, also got lucky. Australian captain Steve Smith and wicketkeeper Josh English dropped their catches. He survived the review once he was adjudged LBW. He could not take advantage of these lives as well and in the 11th over, he was caught by Stark’s ball to Marnus Labushen standing at point. Gill scored 20 runs in 31 balls.
