Now after the death of the person, his Aadhaar card will not be misused. The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) and the Registrar General of India, the Aadhaar issuing organization, are going to make sure arrangements for this. Both the organizations are working on a mechanism. In this, the Aadhaar will be deactivated as soon as the death certificate is issued.
Many such cases have come to the fore in the country, in which even after the death of the person, other facilities including ration and pension continue to be taken in his name. The government is taking these steps to prevent such cases.
Aadhaar will be deactivated after the consent of the family of the deceased
According to sources, under this mechanism, as soon as the death certificate of the concerned agency is issued, its information will be sent to the family of the deceased and after their consent, the number will be deactivated. The Registrar General of India is the body that keeps records of births and deaths in the country.
What is the arrangement now?
At present, there is no system to cancel the Aadhaar card of a person after his death. In such a situation, it is the responsibility of the family of the deceased to keep the Aadhaar card of the deceased safe and see that it is not misused. The person who has died, if that person was taking advantage of any scheme or subsidy through Aadhaar, then the concerned department should inform about the person’s death. This will remove his name from that scheme.
What to do: One can lock the Aadhaar of the deceased person through Aadhaar app or UIDAI website. This will help in preventing misuse of the Aadhaar number of the deceased person. Click here to know its process
