For the first time, scientists have taken a picture of a black hole named Sagittarius A* located in the middle of our Milky Way Galaxy. It is 4 million times the mass of the Sun and is 9.5 trillion kilometers away from Earth. This is the second picture released of a black hole. Earlier in April 2019, a photo of the M87 Galaxy’s black hole was revealed.
This unique discovery has been made by an international team of researchers involved in the Event Horizon Telescope Collaboration. He developed this picture with the help of a worldwide network of radio telescopes. The results of this research have been published in The Astrophysical Journal Letters.
First know, what is a black hole?
Black holes are formed when stars release their nuclear fuel or they die.
A black hole is a celestial object whose gravity is so strong that nothing, including light, can escape its pull. Objects can fall in it, but nothing can come out. It also absorbs the light falling on it. Black holes are formed when stars release their nuclear fuel or they die.
Picture of a black hole taken like this
Picture of Sagittarius A* A black hole can be seen in the center, around which is a ring of light.
The picture of Sagittarius A * has been taken with interferometry technique. Through this, a picture or video can be made by combining the data received from 4 telescopes. This photo of Sagittarius A * is the cleanest picture ever.
The power of these telescopes can be gauged from the fact that even after the black hole has no light of its own, we got such a clear image of it. Scientists recognized and photographed the black hole in the light of the stars revolving around it.
A black hole can be seen in the center of the picture, around which is a ring of light. This ring is actually a very hot gas, which is bound by gravity. Its size is 6 crore kilometers.
Different from the black hole seen in 2019
The M87 Galaxy’s black hole was 6.5 billion times the mass of the Sun to a thousand times more.
The black hole picture released by scientists in 2019 was quite different from Sagittarius A*. This black hole in the Messier 87 or M87 Galaxy was 6.5 billion times the mass of the Sun to a thousand times more. This figure is so big that it cannot even be written in math numbers.
