For the first time in the world, breast milk has been prepared for the newborn in the lab. Israeli startup ‘Biomilk’ has succeeded in making milk from breast cells of women. The company claims that this milk has mostly all the nutrients that are found in mother’s milk.

Claim- Milk like mother’s milk
The company’s Chief Science Officer and Co-Founder Dr. Leela Strickland says, “Our product contains more nutrients than any other product. It is very similar to mother’s milk. It contains all the nutrients such as proteins, carbohydrates, fatty acids and bioactive lipids that are present in breast milk.

The only difference is antibodies
Dr. Leela says, the only difference between breast milk and breast milk prepared in the lab is antibodies. Antibodies are made from mother’s milk to fight diseases in the child, whereas this milk does not do so. But all the essential nutrients are available.

If the son was born pre-mature, he could not give milk
Dr. Leela says, there is also a story of preparing breast milk in the lab. She says my son was born pre-mature. Because of this I was not able to provide her breast milk. Taking lessons from this, I set the goal of preparing breast milk in the lab. In 2013, he started growing breast cells in the lab. Most of the staff in our company are women.

Helpful in the development of the immune system and brain
Dr. Leela claims that the way our product helps in the development of the child’s immune system, gut and brain, other milk products do not. It is our endeavor to make it available in the market in the next three years.

Dr. Leela says, I started the startup in 2019 with food scientist Michelle Egger. Our goal is not to eliminate breastfeeding. We want to provide an alternative to breast milk to women with the help of our product.
