Amidst the increasing cases of corona in India, a big statement has come from the top scientist of the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), Samiran Panda. He has said that if no new variant of corona comes after Omicron, then by March 11 this epidemic will enter the endemic stage. This means that the speed of virus infection will slow down significantly.
First know, what is endemic stage?
According to the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), a disease is considered to be in the endemic stage when its presence is permanent and the spread becomes normal. In such a situation, the effect of the epidemic becomes limited to a few people or a particular area. Along with this, the virus has also weakened. Apart from this, people also learn to live with that disease.
5 big reasons for coming to the endemic stage of corona epidemic:
- Omicron Not Serious, Mild: Dr Niranjan Patil of Metropolis Healthcare Limited says that Omicron is milder than the previous variants of Corona. It does not cause much damage to the lungs, which greatly reduces the risk of pneumonia, lack of oxygen and admission to the ICU. In 85-90% of Omicron cases, the patient does not have any symptoms.
- Effect of corona vaccine: Immunologist Jennifer Gommerman of the University of Toronto says that current vaccines and their booster doses are strengthening our immune system. This also saves us from falling prey to serious diseases caused by corona. Many companies around the world are also preparing a new type of vaccine to target Omicron.
- Omicron infection boosts immunity against other variantsA recent research conducted in South Africa has found that antibodies are produced in the body against the delta variant when Omicron infection occurs. However, this is possible only if the patient is fully vaccinated.
- Omicron to become Dominant Corona variant: According to America’s top scientist Anthony Fauci, almost all the people in the world will be infected with the new variant of Corona. If this happens, then Omicron will become a dominant corona variant in the world and people will have natural immunity against it.
- The deadly form of corona dies along with the patient: Experts believe that the virus that kills people dies with them. Only the same form of virus is able to survive in nature, with which a large population of the world can survive. Just as the flu pandemic of 1918 has become a mere cold-cough virus today, so can the corona virus.
Omicron was a crisis for the country since December 11
Dr Samiran Panda has told through an analysis that from December 11, the Omicron variant had increased the problem in the country. This crisis will continue for 3 months. He says that we will get some relief from Corona only till March 11. Dr Panda says that if Omicron replaces Delta and no new variants emerge after that, it will be considered as the endemic stage of the corona pandemic.
It is difficult to say whether the peak has come in Mumbai-Delhi or not.
Panda says that whether the peak of corona has come in cities like Delhi and Mumbai, it cannot be confirmed yet. According to him, the answer to this question will be available only after 2 weeks because different states of the country are in different stages of the third wave. Currently, the ratio between Omicron and Delta in these cities is 80:20.
