Team India’s wicket-keeper batsman Rishabh Pant has broken his silence on his criticisms due to poor form. On Wednesday, before the third match of the India-New Zealand ODI series, 25-year-old Pant while answering the question of commentator Harsh Bhogle said – My only form is bad. The record in white ball is not as bad as people are saying.
What did Pant say?
Before the third ODI, the commentator asked Pant – Looking at the attacking style, it seems that your white ball game will be very good. But, your record in Test is better. Pant said on this – My white ball record is also not bad. It’s okay isn’t it? To compare is not a part of life at all. Now I am 25 years old. The comparison should happen when I am 30-32 years old. Before that there is no logic.
‘Would like to open in T20’
On the question of his batting position, Pant said – I would like to open in T20 only. At number 4-5 in ODIs and in Tests, I am still playing at number-5. Batting at different positions changes the game plan. The team management sees at which position the best of the player can emerge. He is sent to bat at the same number.
‘One has to make up his mind beforehand in T20’
The commentator asked Pant in which format the shots have to be played after making up your mind beforehand. Pant said on this – In Tests and ODIs, batting has to be done according to the game. But, in T20, shots have to be played after making up your mind beforehand.
Pant’s bat did not work on New Zealand tour
After the interview with the commentator, India had to bat first after losing the toss in the third ODI. Pant landed at number-4 but he could only score 10 runs off 16 balls. In the first ODI too, only 15 runs came off his bat in 23 balls. Due to rain in the second ODI, he could not bat.
Earlier in the T20 series from New Zealand, Rishabh Pant could only score 17 runs at a strike rate of 94.44. He was sent to open 2 times, but he could not do anything special.
Scored 50 plus runs 19 matches ago
Pant was played 2 matches during the T20 World Cup in Australia before the tour of New Zealand. Here he was dismissed for 3 against Zimbabwe and 6 against England. He could not score any fifty or century from 19 matches in Limited Overs i.e. ODIs and T20 Internationals.
He won the team for the last time on 17 July 2022 by playing a 125-run not out in ODI against England. In 2022, Pant played 12 ODIs and 25 T20 matches. Scored 700 runs in these. In these 37 matches, he could score 3 fifty and one century. His last fifty in T20 came against the West Indies in February.
How is the record in overall ODI, T20?
Pant made his T20 debut for India in 2016. Since then he got chances in 66 matches. In which he could score 987 runs at a strike rate of 126.37. But, his average was 22.43 and he could score more than 50 runs in only 3 innings. He made his ODI debut for India in 2018. In the 30 matches played so far, he scored 865 runs at an average of 34.60. One century and 5 fifty came in these.
score well in test
Pant could not do anything special in limited overs cricket. But, his record in Test matches has always been excellent. He scored 532 runs in 5 Tests played this year. These include 2 centuries and 3 fifty. Both the centuries came on foreign pitches. One in South Africa and one century in England too.
