Lakshmi Balachandra, Associate Professor of ‘Entrepreneurship’ at Bobson College, alleged that she lost several opportunities in her career due to the college administration’s inattention to her complaints, reported The Boston Globe. There was a financial loss, but his reputation was also hurt.
Balachandra Bobson joined the faculty in 2012. He accused Professor and former chair of the college’s ‘Entrepreneurship’ division, Andrew Corbett, of creating a discriminatory work environment.
According to the complaint filed on February 27 in the US District Court in Boston, Balachandra alleged that he was denied research and several opportunities despite his research record.
Balachandra alleged in the complaint, “White and male faculty are favored at Bobson and awards and privileges are reserved for them only.
According to the complaint, despite his research record, expressing interest and serving in the college, he has been denied opportunities to devote more time to research and writing. It states, “Such privileges are routinely accorded to white male faculty.”
Balachandra’s lawyer Monica Shah said that the professor has also filed a discrimination suit in the ‘Massachusetts Commission Against Discrimination’.
Meanwhile, Bobson College said they take complaints seriously and have established protocols and resources to thoroughly investigate and resolve complaints.
A spokesperson for Bobson College was quoted in the news as saying, “The college has people from all parts of the world where equality is valued. Discrimination of any kind is not tolerated in the college.
According to the news, Balachandra is currently on leave for fellowship in the ‘National Science Foundation’.
