A three-Test series is to be played between India and South Africa from 26 December. Team India has been announced for this. Rohit Sharma, KL Rahul, Rishabh Pant, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Shami and Hanuma Vihari have returned to the team. Along with this, Rohit Sharma has also been declared the captain of the ODI and T20 team. The Indian team for the limited overs series will be announced later.

Standby Player: Navdeep Saini, Saurabh Kumar, Deepak Chahar, Azran Nagwaswala.

South Africa has declared its team
South Africa announced its 21-man squad on Tuesday. Their squad is as follows- Dean Elgar (Captain), Temba Bavuma, Quinton de Kock, Kagiso Rabada, Sarel Ervi, B. Hendrix, George Linde, Keshav Maharaj, Lungi Ngidi, Aiden Markram, Vian Mulder, Enrique Nortya, K. Pietersen, Rasie van der Dussen, Kyle Verein, Marco Jansson, Glenton Sturman, Prenelan Subrayen, Sisanda Magala, Ryan Richelton, Duane Olivier.

The tour will begin with a Test match at Centurion on 26 December. This will be followed by the second Test in Johannesburg from January 3 to 7 and the last in Cape Town from January 11 to 15.

Why is India South Africa series special?
The series between India and South Africa is going to happen at a time when South Africa is completing 30 years of return to international cricket. South Africa was banned by the ICC in 1970 due to apartheid. When South Africa returned to international cricket in 1991, India became the first country to host it.

The Foreign Ministry of South Africa had said about this, ‘The anniversary ceremony will be held in Cape Town on 2 January 2022. The event will also present the strong relationship between South Africa and India.
