India head of Amazon now reaches Supreme Court in web series Tandava case


India head of Amazon has reached the Supreme Court regarding the web series Tandava case.

In the case of web series ‘Tandava’, India head Aparna Purohit of Amazon has filed an anticipatory bail application in the Supreme Court. Purohit has challenged the Allahabad High Court’s decision in the Supreme Court. The Supreme Court will hear the case on Wednesday. The Allahabad High Court had refused to grant anticipatory bail to India head Aparna Purohit of Amazon Seller Private Limited, which showcased the Tandava web series on the OTT platform. The court said that freedom of expression of the person cannot violate the fundamental rights of religious freedom of the majority people.

Significantly, the single judge bench of Allahabad High Court has rejected Amazon’s application for anticipatory bail of top officer Aparna Purohit in India. This application was filed against the makers of the web series Tandava against the FIR lodged by the UP Police in Noida. Aparna is accused of promoting religious animosity and tarnishing the image of the place of worship.

Aparna is protected from arrest in another case. This case was filed by the police in Lucknow. In the case, another judge of Allahabad High Court had extended the period of protection till March 9, three days ago.

Dismissing Aparna Purohit’s anticipatory bail plea in the Noida case, Justice Siddharth said in his 20-page order, “The behavior of the applicant shows that he has a nominal respect for the law of the country and his behavior in some way from court Does not entitle it to relief. The court not only denied any relief to Aparna Purohit, but also made comments expressing his displeasure over the content of the ‘Tandava’ web series.

The court has said that in the name of freedom of art and expression the fundamental rights of religious freedom of the majority people cannot be violated. People’s feelings cannot be hurt by mocking or insulting the gods and goddesses under the guise of rights. The court in its judgment admitted that all the dialogues and scenes in the ‘Tandava’ web series are objectionable. This is going to hurt people’s feelings. The court has commented in this case that those who violate the fundamental rights of the majority people have no right to demand protection of their rights.

It is worth mentioning that in connection with the case filed for posting alleged objectionable material towards Hindu Gods and Goddesses in the controversial web series “Tandava”, Aparna recorded her statement in Hazratganj Kotwali, Lucknow. A case was also registered against Aparna Purohit in Hazratganj Kotwali as well as series director Ali Abbas, producer Himanshu Krishna Mehra and writer Gaurav Solanki and others for their alleged derogatory portrayal of Hindu deities in the Tandava web series.
